Addresses follow strict naming rules in this early stage: only lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens are allowed. Short names are scarce and assigned first-come, first-served. Submitting does not guarantee assignment - all submissions are reviewed before confirmation.

Your relay address is your permanent communication identity, so it should not depend on an employer. You can link your work email and phone numbers to your relay address later, inside your portal.
Relay address requirements
A relay address is your permanent communication identity. To keep the namespace trusted and usable, addresses must follow these rules:
Case-insensitive - JaneDoe.RELAY and janedoe.relay are the same canonical address. Once confirmed, you can set a display name (e.g. JaneDoe) or additional identities like a gaming name in your account settings.

Reserved names
Certain names are reserved and cannot be claimed — including infrastructure terms (admin, api, relay, support), brand names, and governmental terms. If your submission is reserved, we'll let you know and offer an alternative where possible.
⚙️ Work in progress. The final namespace requirements are still being finalised. Submitting your preferred name now secures your place in the queue — assignment is confirmed in the order received, subject to the final rules.
About invite emails
When you send an invite, the recipient receives a personal email from RELAY on your behalf - mentioning your name, your relay address, and a short explanation of what RELAY is.
Frequency limit To prevent people from being flooded with the same message, each email address will receive this invite at most 3 times in total - across all senders. If someone has already been invited 3 times via RELAY, they will not receive another invite, even if you add their address.
This limit protects recipients and keeps the invite experience trustworthy.
